Yesterday evening, as I was driving back from dropping our children off at school, a news alert flashed on my phone about an armed militia attack in Caracas. My heart sank as I imagined if that same horror could befall us here.
The incident occurred near a major thoroughfare where families regularly drop their kids off for extracurricular activities. The attackers—belonging to the notorious colectivos, paramilitary groups known to support Venezuela's failing regime—were armed with assault rifles and conducted illegal searches of vehicles and personal devices. What kind of world are we leaving our children?
This isn't an isolated incident. Similar assaults by these militias have been on the rise across Venezuela as the government's authority wanes. Imagine if this sort of terror was happening in our neighborhoods.
What’s truly alarming is how little emphasis local authorities place on addressing the root causes of such violence and instability. It feels like they're more concerned with maintaining appearances than ensuring safety for our families.
The thought of armed groups roaming freely, intimidating citizens at will, is terrifying—especially when it happens near schools and playgrounds where our children are most vulnerable.
Every time I read about another such attack, a cold fear grips me. How long until these same horrors reach us? What kind of world have we allowed to grow around us?
Please share this with every parent you know. It’s crucial that everyone understands the gravity of what's happening in Venezuela and how it underscores the importance of our own safety and security.
