Ten years ago this town was different. Back when people still had some say over what went on in their neighborhoods. That was before.
Last night, news from across the pond made us wonder if we've come full circle here in our little town. A UK court has upheld the use of Pava spray by correctional officers at young offender institutions, dismissing challenges raised by the Howard League for Penal Reform. It's not just about safety anymore; it's about how far things have slid.
Used to be you could leave your front door unlocked and not worry too much. That was before they started coming up with all these new policies—
The pattern is familiar: one more step down a path we shouldn't have taken in the first place. I've lived here 40 years, folks, and every time something like this happens, it feels just a little bit closer to home.
But what does that mean for us? Are we going to let things slide further?
The Obama-era justice system was supposed to be about reform. That's what they said at the time. Now look where we are.
We've seen it before, and we know how it ends. More fear, less freedom, and kids who end up worse off than when they started out.
