Ten years ago this town was different. Used to be you could leave your car unlocked at night, let alone the front door of your home. Back when people still minded their manners on the road.
Now last night's drive home from a maternity checkup turned into a nightmare for one expectant mother and her 2-year-old child. Police report a teenage road rager pulled alongside her vehicle, rolled down his window, and shot once right at her car door before speeding off.
The mom was pregnant with twins; both she and the baby are okay. The toddler's dad was with them in the back seat too, thank God no one was hurt badly or you wouldn't be reading this story.
Not the first time something like this has happened around here either, not by a long shot. I've lived here 40 years and never seen crime so brazen and violent before.
It's gotten to where it's hard knowing whether someone honking behind you is just impatient or packing heat. Used to know every neighbor on the street growing up.
Now days, don't even bother waving at strangers anymore cause chances are they might not be a stranger but a threat in disguise. What's happened to our community?
