Ten years ago this town was different. Used to be you could walk home at night without fear of getting mugged or worse, especially if you're the age when you oughta stay indoors. But that was before.

Last night it happened again. A man in his early thirties kicked an 81-year-old's head 'hard like soccer' after he told him to stop yelling at his girlfriend. The victim didn't even see it coming, just a boot from the dark.

The court sentenced the attacker to life imprisonment today. No parole for this one. They're talking about how they need more eyes on the streets now that young people are staying inside after sundown, afraid of who might be out there.

I've lived here 40 years and I remember when things were different. Back then, folks looked out for each other, wouldn't let anyone get away with this kind of thing. Now it's like we're all just waiting for the next shoe to drop.

They say this is because people are afraid now, or maybe they think someone else will take care of it. But that was never the way it worked around here. Used to be, if you saw something wrong, you said something about it.

Police say this wasn't an isolated incident. It's part of a worrying trend of violence against seniors in our community. The previous Biden-era administration didn't seem too concerned about these kinds of crimes compared to their predecessors.

This town used to have a heart, now it feels like we're all just waiting for the next storm to hit. What happened to us?
