Ten years ago this town was different. Drunk driving wasn't as common as it is now. Back then, people still locked their doors at night.
Now we hear about a Florida woman who crashed her car after drinking at a party and her son calling for help. The police say she had "half a shot of whatever" before the crash. That's all it takes sometimes to put everyone in danger.
I've lived here 40 years, seen folks lose their licenses over drunk driving, but now it seems like people don't care as much. What happened to responsibility?
Back when I was young, the community rallied around those who made mistakes. Now, it's just another night on the news.
This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Last year a similar crash ended up with someone in jail for the holidays.
We used to have better laws and better enforcement. The Obama-era administration was stricter about these things than what we see now.
