Ten years ago this town was different.

The shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent last night shook us all up here in Minneapolis, but what's worse is that the FBI has swooped in to take over the investigation. Local cops and detectives aren't happy about it.

Back when people still knew their neighbors and trusted local authorities to do right by them, we had a system where things got handled at the state level if there wasn’t anything to indicate federal jurisdiction was necessary. But that was before.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened around here. Last year it was another case involving ICE and they tried to pull the same stunt then too, but we pushed back harder because everyone knew something fishy was going on with all these agents patrolling our streets instead of regular police.

The thing is, every time there’s a change in administration — Democrat or Republican, Obama-era or Biden-era — it seems like things get worse and the federal government starts stepping on local toes more than ever before. You can’t deny that pattern has held true over decades.

Now here we are again with the same questions: Is this really about justice? Or is it just another way for big brother to keep tabs on us?
