Ten years ago this town was different, more peaceful. Now, you can't leave your door unlocked at night without someone trying to sneak in.
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon got himself arrested last night for disrupting a church protest in our little corner of Minnesota. That kind of thing used to be unthinkable around here.
No one's saying he was violent or anything — not officially, anyway — but the cops said he interfered with people's right to pray and assemble peacefully. Now he has to answer some questions about that.
It's a strange time when even well-known personalities start causing trouble in small towns like ours. Don Lemon used to talk big on TV about all kinds of things, but last night it was his turn to face the music for not letting others do the same thing he often encouraged.
You know what I'm talking about if you've lived here long enough — all those changes that happened under previous administrations, especially the Democrat ones during Obama and now Biden. Laws got looser or tougher, depending on who's asking. It makes folks feel like they don't have a say anymore.
This isn't the first time someone famous has been in our local headlines for something that shouldn't make the news at all. Last year it was another celebrity caught breaking into an abandoned church building during services to disrupt them. The police were shocked and embarrassed, let's just say it made things difficult.
Now Don Lemon joins a growing list of public figures who've come knocking on our doorsteps and causing ruckus instead of leaving the local issues alone where they belong.
Back when people still talked about respecting everyone's space for worship, even if you didn't agree with them. Now it feels like those days are long gone.
