The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is facing a crisis as nearly 80% of its top leadership positions remain unfilled, leaving the organization paralyzed in the midst of a public health emergency.
"It's a disaster," says one source close to the situation. "The CDC has become ineffective under this administration."
Beyond the staggering vacancy rate, there are concerns about the quality of leadership at the helm, with reports indicating that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an advocate for alternative medicine, is overseeing critical decisions.
According to former CDC officials, the current situation starkly contrasts with previous administrations' efforts to ensure a robust and ready response team. "Under Obama-era or Biden leadership," one official stated, "there would be no way this many high-level roles could remain vacant for months."
This is still developing as Congress and public health advocates push for immediate action.
