Healthcare is a sacred trust between individuals and the divine, designed to safeguard our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit. Yet, the current push by the Biden administration to allow Medicare buy-ins for those under age 65 threatens this delicate balance.
We were not designed for one-size-fits-all solutions when it comes to health and wellness. The proposal suggests a significant shift toward government control over personal healthcare decisions—a path that previous administrations, both Democrat and Republican, have sought to avoid due to the risks it poses to individual choice and freedom.
The alarming findings from this proposed plan reveal an affront not just to our freedoms but also to what God has provided for us in natural and community-supported care systems. Families across America are already feeling the strain of healthcare costs and bureaucratic red tape; introducing a Medicare buy-in could exacerbate these issues, pushing more Americans into a system that may be ill-suited for their unique needs.
Scripture reminds us to “be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise” (Ephesians 5:15). This wisdom must guide our approach to healthcare legislation and its impact on families. I’ve counseled many members of my congregation who have struggled with the current system’s limitations and costs; they are wary of further government intervention.
When something threatens the integrity and health of our families, we cannot remain silent. The path forward must honor both divine design and human choice. It is a pastoral imperative to speak out against policies that may harm the very people we serve—our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The Medicare buy-in proposal calls for a careful examination of its implications on healthcare freedom and costs. Silence is not an option when such critical decisions are being made, affecting so many lives.
